Ambuluwawa Tower is a famous nature reserve and multi-religious complex located in the Gampola region of the Central Province of Sri Lanka. Ambuluwawa Tower

The 400 feet tall tower also known as the agricultural tower at the top of this mountain range is the reason for the popularity of this place.  Ambuluwawa tower represents the Sri Lankan farming community and its shape is like traditional rice storage used in Sri Lanka called Vee Bissa.

Climbing to the top of the Tower is an extremely thrilling experience that stimulates the adrenaline of all tourists who come here. You can enter from the base of the building and use the stairs there to start climbing up. after that, you have to go for the outside stairs to climb the rest. You will experience the best thrill when you climb this tower.

As the stairs get narrower as you go up, it is quite difficult for tourists to move up and down on crowded days and you have to wait some time to go up. But in between, there are places like a cave to exchange. At the top, you can feel the strong winds in the sky and have seen a 360-degree view.

The complex area was used for tea plantations in the early 1900s. In 2005, the site was developed as a nature reserve and multi-religion complex by the Sri Lanka Army. Today, Ambuluwawa is a popular tourist destination attracting visitors from all over the world.

It is said that there are about 90 species of birds.

Best time to visit Ambuluwawa

The best time to visit Ambuluwawa Tower is during the dry season from December to March. The weather is pleasant during this period so visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty of the region without worrying about the disturbance of rain. During the rainy season, it is difficult to climb the tower and it is not possible to enjoy the beauty of the area because of the fog.

The view from the top of the tower is breathtaking on clear days. Gampola town is fully visible; on the other side, you can see the Pussellawa, Kotmale area. From this mountain range, you can see Adam’s Peak, Pidurutalagala, Knuckles, Hunnasgiriya, Peacock Hill, Seven virgin mountain range, and Namunukula mountain ranges also you can see areas such as  Kadugannawa, Balana, and Nelligala.

How to get to Ambuluwawa

By Car

There are several ways to reach Ambuluwawa. If you are coming from Kandy, take the Kandy Gampola road to Gampola town, and from there, you should go about 12km on the Gampola Hemmathagama road. On the way, you can see the entrance to Ambuluwawa on the left and the vehicle parking. You can contact us if you need a taxi

if you are coming from Colombo, you must first come to Mawanella town on the Colombo-Kandy road. and from Mawanella town you should go on Mawanella- Gampola road. On that way, You will see the entrance on your right side

By Train

If you are planning to come here by train, you should take a train from Colombo, Kandy, or Nuwara Eliya to Gampola railway station. From there, the Tower can be accessed by bus, taxi, or tuk-tuk.

By Bus

If you are coming by bus, you should take the bus to the Gampola bus stand from anywhere in Sri Lanka. Then take the bus to Hemmathagama from the Gampola. it would be best if you got out when you reached the Ambuluwawa Tower bus stand.
