The biggest man-made reservoir in Sri Lanka is called Senanayake Samudraya, and it is situated in the Gal Oya National Park in the Eastern Province. The reservoir is well-known for its unique Gal Oya boat safaris, which allow visitors to watch wildlife from the water.

The opportunity to witness elephants swimming between the islands in the reservoir is the highlight of the boat safari. Look out for other fauna, such as crocodiles, deer, and different bird species, as you wade across the reservoir.

Gal Oya Boat Safari Program

  • To start your Gal Oya Boat safari you should depart at least 8:30 am from the hotel near Gal Oya or Ampara.
  • Morning Boat Safaris will start at 9.00 AM from the Reservoir’s boat parking as well as Evening safari start at 3.00 PM
